A monitor is a television type of device which displays text and graphics on the screen. The monitor is an output device which displays information on the screen requested by the user from the computer. The images are displayed on the screen used a verity of colors. They produce images like a realistic feel and look.
Types of a computer monitor
Monitors are classified based on the technology that they use to display images such as the cathode ray tube (CRT), Liquid Crystal Display (LCD), Thin Film Transistor (TFT), Plasma and LED.
Cathode Ray Tube (CRT) Monitor
The Cathode ray Tube (CRT) monitor Is an economical type of monitor. CRT is the heart of the computer, which follows the principle of using an electronic screen. The CRT monitor displays images with color that are consistent and can be viewed comfortably from the different angles. The CRT monitors are useful for displaying and working with graphics and photographs where color plays an important role.
Liquid crystal Display (LCD) Monitors
The LCD monitors are thin and use little space. They are light in weight, consume less energy and mostly used in laptop, Microwave ovens. The Pictures on the LCD monitors does not flicker and thus reduce eyestrain because the whole image is drawn at once on the LCD screen.
TFT means Thin Film Transistor. A TFT monitor uses Thin-Film Transistor technology. TFT LCDs is a form of active matrix LCDs. Nowadays, LCD monitors uses a TFT technology in which a separated tiny transistor is used for each pixel on the display. The size of each transistor is very little. So, the quantity of charge required, to control the transistor is also small. This allows faster re-drawing of the image. A TFT monitor displays sharp text, excellent colors and an improved response time for multimedia applications.
LED computer has been mainly appreciated for its low power consumption and its great performance which has been considered as a perfect for office type of productivity. This computer monitor has been considered to include a very efficient type of power supply and a very low power consumption of less than 1.5 watts in standby mode. Its contrasts ratio, which has been evaluated at 1000:1 and its dynamic type of contrast ratio which is 1000000:1.
A LED monitor is the new kind of LCD monitor, which uses LEDs to illuminate the display. Its work like LCD but its backlight is different. LED monitor use LED backlight replacing the standard cold cathode fluorescent lamps which were used in LCD monitors.
